The jazz ensemble -
is open to 7th and 8th grade band students who are enrolled in the concert band class. 6th grade studens, that have the skills, can participate with director approval and also must be a member of the 6th grade band.

****Jazz Band Festivals****
The jazz band will participate in one or more festivals this year. At this time, The Clark College Jazz Festival is being considered.
As a member
of the LCMS Jazz Ensemble, you are making a commitment to attend rehearsals, concerts, and festivals.
A jazz ensemble
 is totally dependent on EVERYONE playing their part. That's the best learning experience a member can take home with them - traditionally, each member of the ensemble has their own part, their own music, and if it doesn't get played, the whole group suffers.
We need students
who are up to that level of commitment. A student who will perform their best, all the time, for the good of the group.
Music
The school will provide a jazz ensemble methods book and sheet music to students at no aditional cost. If music is missing or abused students will be required to replace the book or pay fines.
****Parent Involvement****

None of the LCMS Jazz Ensemble students drive to school so parents need to discuss driving arrangements with their child (well you better not be driving to school kids ;-)

Parents
Are the key to any music departments success. Kids need instruments, a place to practice (please), and with some students, you will be lucky to have private lessons. Without parent support, any music program will only be mediocre: (of only moderate quality; not very good.)
Parents
are needed to drive the school vans to the jazz festival - we don't take a school bus unless the band is large enough to make it cost effective.
Parents who drive must have information on file in the middle school office well in advance of driving a school vehicle with students on board.
Spring trip
If there is a spring trip, the jazz band will 'tour' with the concert band.
**LC Music Association Bazaar**

The Jazz band will perform this year at the annual Holiday/Christmas Bazaar hosted by the LCMA at the high school. LCMA supports the arts in the La Center School District.
