Assignment: DUE AT END OF PERIOD. Students need to choose the dog head or
man head handout (on small table also). In the space provided in the middle of
the head, they need to do the following two things:

Record 10 quotes from the text that indicate what the
character is doing or not doing properly to survive the trek in the Yukon.
b.
Then briefly explain how this quote illustrates
whether the characterÕs actions or thoughts will help them survive.
Example: If I choose to follow the manÕs actions
and thoughts, I would write something like this in the space in his head.
á ÒHe was a
newcomer in the land, a chechaquo,
and this was his first winterÓ (519).
The man could survive but the fact that this is first winter in the
Yukon suggests he may not be well-prepared to survive
the harsh conditions.
