Thank you for visiting the La Center School District website. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am proud to introduce our staff and appreciate the opportunity to present our students’ achievements.    

The La Center School District Board of Directors is comprised of five unique individuals representing a variety of occupations. Each member feels a deep responsibility to the youth of our district and to the community that has elected us. 

While the Board applauds the successes that our students and staff have experienced, we recognize the value in continuing to “raise the bar.” A commitment to persistent improvement emphasizes every decision that is made. An important part of this is having open dialogue with our parents and community members. 

Many people are unfamiliar with the role that a School Board plays in the operation of a school district. In brief, the Board of Directors is responsible for the following:

• Hiring the Superintendent.
• Setting and maintaining educational standards and goals.
• Keeping the community informed about activities of the Board and of our schools.
• The formation and adoption of policies consistent with state and federal law.
• Securing money for operational needs.
• Authorizing major expenditures.
• Giving the final authority to the hiring and discharge of personnel.
• Reviewing and evaluating all phases of the district's instructional programs and other operations.
• Representing the educational views of the community.
