NO-NAMECALLING WEEK

No Name-Calling Week is an annual week of educational activities aimed at ending name-calling of all kinds. It also provides schools with the tools and inspiration to launch ongoing dialogue about ways to eliminate bullying in their communities and create safe and caring schools.

LaCenter Elementary will be recognizing No Name-Calling Week from January 28 to February 1, 2008. In conjunction with the Second Step curriculum that teachers are using at all grade levels, most teachers will be integrating some of the no name-calling activities this week. There will also be grades K-3 and 4-5 poster contest with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention awards for the posters with the best message and design.

Winning posters will be laminated and displayed.

Please use this opportunity to emphasize with your children the damaging effects of name-calling and other forms of bullying and what they can do to keep themselves from being bullied. A great resource for parents is the website www.stopbullyingnow.hrsa.gov. Reading books with your child is a great way to initiate conversation around these issues. There is a suggested no name-calling/bullying children’s reading list in the school library.
