Excitement rippled through the 800 plus spectators crowded into the elementary school gym. Children from Kindergarten through 5th grade sat cross-legged on the floor, eyes big with anticipation. Little hands with big hearts had worked hard to gather over 7,000 non-perishable food items.....enough to fill over 100 boxes.... each of which would feed a family of 4 for an entire day!

Elementary Principal Carol Patton had issued the original challenge along with a promise. "Collect 5,000 non-perishable food items" she challenged. The promise? "Do it and I will KISS a ..........?"

It's true. A picture IS worth a thousand words! Montana raised, Ms. Patton thought keeping her promise to kiss a pig would be "No big deal". She hadn't counted on all the SQUEALING piglets do! Still, with the help of Associate Principal Scott Lincoln who actually caught the wriggly little cuties (he's the guy in the goggles and rain gear!) she puckered up and planted a bright red smooch on BOTH critters! Thanks, Ms. Patton, for being such a good sport.

Special thanks also to school Nurse Renee' Klein for providing the pigs. The Boy Scouts and the Lion's Club counted and hauled the donated items to a local Clark County Food Bank - many, many thanks for their help! And of course, an extra special THANK YOU to all the children of La Center Elementary school who played a part in this labor of generosity.... you make us proud every day!
