FOR LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL
LESSON GOALS:

- Help students review and update their resumes.
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
- What do I want to do in the future?
- How can I plan?
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Student
Resumes
- Sample
Resumes to help students
CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:
- Discuss
activities and review resumes. The
year is halfway over. What new
things have students been involved in since last year. Do they have a new job or have they done
some volunteer work? What kinds of
things are they thinking about for the rest of the year, or even the
summer? Now look at student
resumes. Is everything still
current?
- Update
Resumes. Show students some
sample resumes and have them compare their own resumes to the
samples. Do they have all the
necessary information? Is all of
their information updated? Do they
need new references? Have they had
a job or done volunteer work that needs to be added to their resume? Discuss what employers look for in a
resume.
- Work
time. If students have extra time, they should work on
adding work samples and writing rationales. This also might be a good time for
teachers to check portfolios to make sure students are up to date.
STUDENT PRODUCTS:
- Updated
Resume. Each student should update
their resume and include it in their portfolio.
