CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:

  1. Discuss students’ career information interviews. Students have had the opportunity to interview someone in a career that interests them. How did they do? What did they learn? Were there any surprises? Discuss the interviews with your students. If your students did not conduct interviews, talk about the career research they’ve conducted to date. (5-10 minutes)

  1. Reflect on information interviews. After your discussion, distribute the Career Information Interview Reflection handouts. Ask students to work individually or in small groups to complete these. They might want to supplement their reflections with Internet or library research. If your students did not conduct interviews, have them complete the reflection forms using the research they’ve conducted on a career of interest as their “interview.” (10-15 minutes)

  1. Round up items for portfolios. Make today’s lesson a portfolio roundup. Remind students to identify work they’re proud of – or that they learned from – and create rationales of work samples.

WHAT DO DIFFERENT CAREERS REQUIRE?

What did you learn about getting a job from the person you interviewed or the research you’ve conducted? What did you learn about what it will take to pursue a career in your career pathway?

Use your interview notes or the Internet to research the career of the person you interviewed (or a related career, if you want to research your own dream career instead).
