Mission
Statement
The mission of La Center High School is to provide a positive, caring environment
founded on high standards where all students develop skills necessary to be
responsible citizens, active learners, and productive members of a modern global
community.
Our
School
La Center High School is the 9 -12 high school serving the students and parents
of the La Center School District. The high school was originally completed in
1993 and has undergone considerable remodeling in the high school office and
career center along with the construction of a new two story wing which has
a new Library and eleven new classrooms. With the average enrollment of 465
students during the 2006-2007 school year, La Center High School is in the “A”
school classification, a member of the SWW A League and WIAA District four.
A wide variety of curricular and extracurricular activities are available to
the students of La Center High School. Included in these are, Concert Band,
Choral Ensemble, Jazz Band and Jazz Choir, Science Club, Future Business Leaders
of America (FBLA), Running Start, Skills Center, Knowledge Bowl, Honor Society,
an exceptional Drama and Art program, as well as a highly successful athletic
program.
La Center High School provides students opportunity to use technology in a number
of lab settings. There are in excess of 180 computers in the high school. The
business lab has IBM compatible computers running the software Microsoft Office.
How you can help
Parents can become involved in La Center High School and their children’s
education in many ways. They can become generally involved with the organization
called P.I.E. (Parents Involved in Education.) These parents volunteer their
time to help during lunch hours, and in the Library. If they wish to become
more specifically involved with their children’s education, they can join
such groups as the Booster Club, LCEF, Music Association, Vocational Advisory,
and Senior Parents. Parents involved in these support groups support specific
activities and provide fundraising assistance. Participation of parents is vitally
important to maintain a quality school. If you would like to get involved in
any of these activities, please contact the High School office at 263-1700.

Assessment
Data
Included in this data are grade point averages by class for the past few years,
as well as the school’s average test results from required state testing
and college entrance exams (SAT). As with any testing, the average score is affected
by the number of students taking the test. The relatively small number of students
involved in the tests may cause averages to fluctuate substantially from year
to year.

Running
Start
Running Start is a state-wide program where juniors and seniors can attend
a local community college and receive high school and college credit at the
same time. Through the Running Start program, many students over the last
4 years have earned an AA degree from Clark College or Lower Columbia College
while meeting the requirements for high school graduation. Other students
graduated with only a few credits yet to be earned toward their two-year college
degree.
