Please read over these rules and expectations and then parents need to email me to verify that you went over these with the student. If email is not possible, print and sign this form and return it to Mr. Cooke the following day.
Objective of Class: This class is designed to improve the overall fitness of students through muscular and cardiovascular development. The intent is to cultivate students into exceptional athletes.
Grading: A student will be graded based upon participation, attendance, proper attire, and max lifts throughout the year. Students can earn up to 5 points per day based on the following criteria.
Lockers: Students will be issued a school lock. School locks are the only locks allowed to be put on lockers. It is recommended that students not share lockers or share their combinations with other students to prevent theft. Also, it is very important that students lock their lockers at all times, even between classes. Check that it is locked by pulling down on the lock after you close the lock. If a student loses a lock, they will need to pay $8.50 to the school before another lock will be issued.
Freebie Absences: Students will be given 4 “freebies” each semester. The freebies will be applied if a student is excused through the office for being absent. A freebie may also be used if a student is not feeling well, but is well enough to go to school. It may also be used if the student is injured. A parent must write a note to me asking to let the student sit out for the day due to illness or injury. The note must be turned in the day of or the day after the student sits out. If no note is brought in and the student sits out, it will result in a Non-Suit (see above section “Proper Attire” for consequences of non-suits).
Restroom / Water: Restroom needs must be taken before or after class. We are only in the weight room for about 35 – 40 minutes. If a student has an emergency, an exception may be made. However, abuse of this will result in losing half of the daily points. It is vital to drink water throughout the day. A person should drink half of the body weight in ounces per day. For example, if a person weighs 200 lbs, that person should drink 100 oz. per day of water. Water breaks are permissible during class. However, abuse of this will result in no water breaks. Students are not to congregate around the water fountain and are not to disrupt the other PE class that is in the gym. It is recommended that students bring a water bottle to class to help minimize the amount of time for breaks.
Make-up Days: Students may make-up any day that is an excused absence or if the student is sick or injured and excused by the parent. Remember that students receive 4 Freebies, but beyond that, the student is responsible for making up those days. Make-up days are to be completed after school in the weight room. Days and times that the weight room is open will be determined and the students will be notified. Make-up days need to be completed by the last week of the semester. Exceptions may be made if the student is absent that last week of the semester.
If you have any questions regarding these policies, please contact me. Thank you and I look forward to a great year of physical education and weight training.
