La Center High School Cross Country

The La Center High School cross country program was started in 1994 by Coach David Holmes.  During that first season, the team had 7 guys, and five girls.  That first year, the boys team took 11th place at State.

Since then, the team has grown to be one of the most successful programs in Southwest Washington, regardless of size.  We have brought home three state trophies since 1997.  This year, the girls team took second place behind defending state champions, King’s High School.  The boys team placed a promising 11th, with a young, inexperienced team.  Only 3 of the boys had competed in a state meet before, and we have only one senior graduating from the varsity team

2008 should be a great season for both squads.  The girls team will once again go head-to-head with King’s for the championship.  The boys team, older and wiser, should finally make it back to the podium for the first time since 1997.

Run easy is an oxymoron.  What is it about running that scares people so much?  Why do people feel they have to put friendly modifiers next to running so everyone can feel good about it?  Well, here’s the ugly truth.  Everyone shouldn’t feel good about running.  It’s hard.  It hurts.  Running requires sacrifice and heart and guts.  Any attempt to water it down with feel-good adjectives is a slap in the face to those of us who still hold running sacred.  In fact, if you’re running easy, odds are you’re not running at all.  You’re jogging.  So do us a favor, don’t run easy,  Run hard.  Run like an animal.  Run like a Wildcat.
